Q1 Review

as we close out Q1, here are my thoughts on things money related.

- my non-retirment stock portfolio fell about 15% probably in Q1 while the market had one of its best quarters in 5+ years.
- did the facebook.com founders, some 20 year old harvard dude, really turn down $750 million for that site. geez, facebook is not google. heck it's not even friendster much less myspace, take the money and run dude. see Mark Cuban as an example.
- oil (and the related gasoline) is expensive, and looks like it will continue to be. my 275 miles a week on the road is going to be that much more painful. Doesn't help that Hugo Chavez will be emperor of some new S American empire someday soon while we are distracted by Iraq.
- i'm buying the first stock that the Beckster recommends on CNBC when she starts
- i'm also buying XEC and SGR because i heard them mentioned on CNBC, my old strategy of finding them on my own obviously isn't working

On a political note:
- Saying NSA wiretapping of terrorists is worse than Nixon tapping political opponents for personal gain really isn't fair. you're not going to win too many votes from the voters with that position. that is what all these big issues (wire tapping, immigration) are about these days isn't it? sure seems like it to me.

I don't know. Somehow, I find Bush's desire to wiretap whomever he pleases without obtaining a warrant (ie. having a legitimate reason that the court will approve) vastly more disturbing than Nixon spying on his political enemies (which seems somewhat appropriate in the war that election politics has become). Besides, you can't throw people in an overseas jail indefinitely for taking you down in the primaries. I can't say the same for the 'terrorists'.
