coming full circle.

A few of you, myself included, are legacy ATT Wireless subscribers. Just some history, ATT wireless was spun off from ATT back in the day. It was acquired not too long ago by Cingular Wireless (a joint venture of bell south and SBC). At that time the ATT wireless name was dropped, we all became cingular customers and the customer service people sold us new plans saying that the old ATT Wireless ones were no good in the new company. If the story ended there, this would be even more useless than it already is, but fear not, it doesn't.

SBC decided to go ahead and acquire ATT just this year, rather than take some weird name like SBC-ATT (see exxon-mobil) they just changed the whole company name to ATT. Then this weekend, the new ATT announced it was acquiring bell south, thus wholly owning Cingular. They also announced that Cingular would be renamed, get this, ATT Wireless.

So, millions of investment banking fees later, and creating a behemoth of a company, i'm back to being an ATT Wireless customer, hopefully they don't make me buy yet another service plan.
