UofC marketing

when you give money to people, you tend to get holiday cards from them. one such place is the UofC, from whom i received a card the other week with a guy and a gal, allegedly UofC students photographed in the spur of the moment having a snowball fight. Inside the cute card it says, "season's greeting from the UofC, where the lively exchange of ideas sometimes has to be taken outside." I'm always amused by how the UofC tries so hard to promote itself as being this fun school, despite the dark days and -20 wind chill, and yet also one where intellectual exchanges are constantly flowing and you're sitting around discussing the life of the mind all day.

speaking of life of the mind, i finished my like 2nd book of the year, Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix. I still think harry has an attitude problem and i don't like how the books are getting darker and V-man seems to be winning half the time. I'm going to back off this Neville as the messiah stance a bit having read big D's actual explanation, however, hope isn't totally lost because it's now setup for harry to die (hope, hope) in the last book, everyone gets depressed because V wins, but then neville saves the day. i'm considering reading half blood prince, but it's even darker, and i'll just be angrier i think.
