trick or treat

well the first (and last, since i turned off the lights) group of punk teenagers just came by around 9EST to collect handfuls of candy. Despite living in a fairly suburban, fairly upscale neighborhood (not like trick or treating in hyde park or anything), i had a total of 4 groups of people come by tonight. 1st were my neighbors (2 kids), then two other groups (5 total kids), and then the 4 teenagers. That's a whole 11 people. I think the problem is that i live on a small, isolated street (10 houses) boxed in by two relatively large streets. oh well, everyone got large handfuls of candy and there's still plenty for the folks at work tomorrow. speaking of work, i actually got dressed up for the halloween party. the costume was simple, yet most people got a kick out of it, i'll try to get pictures in the next month or so. it's hard getting pictures of stuff at work since cameras are prohibited, they don't want people photographing "classified" material or something like that.

has anyone ever seen a church throw an Oktoberfest/halloween party before complete with carnival rides, moon bounces, two kegs of beer all the way from pennsylvania (for more authenticity), hot pretzels with authentic carnival pretzel machine from baltimore, and all the bratwurst, potato salad, and apple pies (about 15 different ones) you can eat . Totally free too. yeah, my church for being super conservative, sure likes to throw some expensive, fairly atypical parties.

oh and Scalito, the new supreme court nominee. it's good to see another Yale Law grad being nominated after that 3rd tier law school joke in ms Miers (although i admit, i did think it was a good thing to get a non-yalie in there). this is going to be ugly, but he'll likely be confirmed. let's just see how ugly it gets. i hope they don't end up filibustering and nuclearing it. (i make up words like GW). This is after all the privilege of controlling every branch of govt and getting that "mandate" from the people. The GOP is so dead next election though. The people now probably realize the mandate wasn't such a good idea after all.
