giving up on baseball

the mets are choking the season away and i think i'm done with baseball for this year, giving up in frustration of more blow opportunities. at least Notre Dame is playing very well in the first half at pitt. hopefully the'll manage 2 wins in the next 6 games. what kind of glutton for punishment are they out there in south bend with that schedule anyways. for those who aren't aware, i don't love college football but i do hope that Miami and ND both do well each year. grew up liking ND, parents went to miami.

as far as this mess in New Orleans, as politically non correct as it may be, i do think there's some truth to those claims of racism being a factor in the response by Bush. Not on a conscious level certainly, the main problem is the exorbitant beauracracy that is the federal government and it's inability to get things done in the mess that is Homeland Security, however on a subconcious level i think the fact that the victims are mostly poor and black does have an effect. the republican's gave up on them long ago in favor of chicago style trickle down theories. things will be interesting if the army ends up shooting at americans. and for those who like to complain about how the UN won't help us, look, we've already raised more money from our super rich nation than we did for the tsunami which killed at least 100 times more people and wiped out many more cities.

on a personal note, not a bit of discomfort yet from the root canal. a very good sign as usually the worst happens within the first 48 hours.
