This will be interesting

With the retirement of the women (or at least name) made famous by the Governator, it looks like W has hit the jackpot with at least 2 supreme court appointments likely in his term. My current boss, Al Gone, seems to be the front runner right now. However despite being a supporter of torture and being in with W, the conservatives think he is too moderate and they want another Scalia, not another O'Connor. If the GOP can push through another Scalia/Thomas type person to replace O'Connor and Rehnquist, that would give them all 3 branches hands down and could make for some very interesting things over the next few years, especially over the so called "moral" issues. Expect big fights (perhaps even nuclear ones) over confirmation if W does indeed appoint an ultra conservative.

Personally, while i am conservative on those "moral" issues, i would hate to see the supreme court become the means for achieving all those goals. It is after all supposed to be the last check on powers and should be interpreting the constitution only, not practicing partisan politics.
